Butch Walker CD Release

July 9th, 2002 was the release of Butch Walker's first solo album, Left of Self-Centered. Anyone who knows me knows that Marvelous 3 is my favorite band of all-time, and that Butch Walker is my idol (not only because of his music, but also because of the messages he sends to just be yourself and do what makes you happy in life.) Butch had his CD release party at the Wherehouse Music in downtown Atlanta, so Marissa and I went down there to meet him. It was great. The event was advertised as just being a signing, but Butch performed a 30+ minute long set of stuff off the new album. He was only scheduled to be there until 9:30, but he ended up staying until midnight or so to meet everyone there (400-500 people showed up for the signing.) What makes him especially cool is that he wasn't one of those artists who would just sign the album and then move on; he actually took the time to talk to everyone. I got a chance to tell him that he's my idol, and how much his work has inspired my writing and filmmaking (he even asked me a few questions about both.) He's definitely one of the nicest and most hardworking guys in the industry. If you like good music, go buy the album!
